COVID Diaries: Steph's keeping afloat with her HRP
2 April 2020
Much like Aimee from last week's blog, Steph has been keeping us up to date with her dissertation project through social media! Last time we spoke to Steph, she had established her working title of 'Quantifying plastics and connecting possible drivers of pollution within a river' and was about to set sail with her nets to capture data and any plastic materials. We are following Steph's updates, seeing how she is adapting to the changing circumstances but striving to make the best of an unprecidented situation.
We’re Off!! #Mini #Manta #Trawl Nets are in! The river has finally got back to normal levels and the weather has cleared! Now to (Im)patiently wait to see what I collect! @HarperAdamsUni @SWLecLC #RiverCorve @ShropsWildlife #RiverPlastic #Microplastic #WomenInScience #womeninSTEM pic.twitter.com/FQ7Alka21C

Another day spent surveying the #RiverCorve for #plastics in the river. Due to rain over night the river was higher and had more debris! Looking forward to labs tomorrow. Let’s see what I find! #riverplastic #WomenInSTEM @HarperAdamsUni @SWLecLC #HRP #WomenInScience pic.twitter.com/5tsa0bkcoa

Look what just arrived in the post!Calibration slide to help me identify the sizes of my plastic found so far! The pictures depicts a size range of each small division as 0.01mm. So slide 2 is 0.2mm big. #ScienceFromHome #WomenInSTEM #microplastics @HarperAdamsUni @SWLecLC #HRP pic.twitter.com/lKH2av5M1N
